Summary:
The Massachusetts Sustainable Energy Economic Development (SEED) Initiative provides financial assistance to support renewable-energy companies in the early stage of development. Applicants are companies that generally have a unique technology but have not yet demonstrated commercial viability to an extent sufficient to attract venture capital. Awards of up to $500,000 are available as a convertible loan on a competitive basis. SEED accepts applications on an open enrollment basis.

The SEED Initiative was developed by the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC), the administrator of the state's Renewable Energy Trust Fund. Since 2004, the Massachusetts Renewable Energy Trust has invested over $4.9 million in Massachusetts-based renewable energy companies through the SEED Initiative.
