Programmable Thermostat: $25
Room AC: $50
Central AC/Air-Source Heat Pumps: Depends on efficiency
Geothermal Heat Pump: Depends on efficiency
Maximum Incentive:Lighting: $2,000 per year
Appliances: 50% of the equipment cost
Programmable Thermostats: 3 per household
Room AC: 2 per household
Equipment Requirements:Energy Star New Home: HERS audit score of 85 or less
Appliances, Room AC, and Programmable Thermostat: Must be Energy Star rated
Central AC: requires installation of a Prime Time power switch
Central AC/Air-Source Heat Pumps: minimum 14 SEER
Geothermal Heat Pump: minimum 14.1 EER

Summary:
 
The City of Ames Electric Services offers a variety of rebates for residential customers interested in purchasing energy efficient appliances and making energy efficiency improvements to their homes. They also offer the residential efficiency construction program for new homes that meet certain Energy Star standards described on the program website.  
 
To assess the customers energy needs, the City of Ames Electric Services offers free energy audits to any interested residential customers. Audits are performed by certified energy experts who assess the energy efficiency level of the home and will supply the customer with certain free energy saving measures such as equipment insulation and up to 6 CFLs.  
 
The appliance rebate program provides rebates on the purchase of Energy Star refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, and washing machines. The residential high efficiency lighting rebate program offers incentives for a variety of CFLS, electronic ballasts, and occupancy or daylight sensors. And the efficiency air conditioner rebate program offers rebates for the purchase of energy efficient central air conditioners, air-source and geothermal heat pumps, Energy Star rated programmable thermostats, and Energy Star rated room air conditioner units. All equipment must meet certain energy efficiency requirements listed on the program website. By accepting any of the air conditioner rebates the customer agrees to allow City of Ames Electric Services to install a load control switch on their central air conditioner.
