Summary:
Southern California Edison (SCE) offers a rebate program specifically encouraging energy savings for SCE customers who own a detached single-family home. The program aims to reduce energy consumption by upgrading existing systems and measures in participating homes. The program consists of two tiers. Savings reductions will be compared to home energy usage prior to the upgrade.
The basic upgrade package requires homeowners to install more efficient air sealing, attic insulation, duct sealing, water heater pipe insulation, shower heads and also requires duct testing and combustion safety testing. If the upgrades meet SCE standards, participants in this basic upgrade may receive an incentive of $1,000.
The advanced upgrade package requires that all homes implement the measures outlined in the basic upgrade package. In addition, homes must also have upgraded wall insulation, windows, cool roofs, and must properly size hot water and cooling equipment. Currently, a 40% reduction in home energy consumption qualifies homeowners for a full incentive of $4,000. Partial incentives are also available for homes which do not meet this standard but complete necessary measures. Incentive checks will be mailed four to six weeks after program completion.
SCE has other rebates for residential users, including pool pumps, heating and cooling products such as room air conditioner units, whole house fans, evaporative coolers, and home appliances such as refrigerators and water heaters. Contact SCE for information about this program or visit the program web site listed above.
